Do you want to learn how to become a skydiver?

At Music City Skydiving, we train new skydivers using the Accelerated Freefall (AFF) program—the fastest and most effective way to learn how to skydive.

You’ll jump from full altitude with at least one instructor on every level, building skills progressively as your confidence grows. Many students finish AFF in as little as one long weekend. To stay current during training, you’ll need to make at least one jump every 30 days.

After completing AFF, most jumpers continue toward their United States Parachute Association “A” license. You’ll earn it after 25 jumps, working with instructors and coaches, completing required skills, and demonstrating consistent accuracy parachute landings. With your USPA “A” license, you can jump solo at most skydiving centers in the world, and go up to 60 days between jumps.

HOW SKYDIVING TRAINING WORKS

1. GROUND SCHOOL

Becoming a licensed skydiver starts here.

Your path to your first skydiving license begins in the classroom, where you’ll learn equipment basics, skydiving terminology, safety and emergency procedures. This is also where you’ll learn the goals and sequences for your upcoming skydives.

This 4–6 hour course, typically held on Friday evenings, gives you everything you need to confidently step into your first AFF jump the very next day.

2. FIRST AFF SKYDIVES

Your first two AFF jumps are completed as a tandem progression, introducing you to freefall while focusing on body position, altitude awareness, and initiating deployment under instructor guidance.

After demonstrating stability, heading control, and deployment, you’ll advance to Category C, where you begin your instructor-assisted solo freefall levels, practicing controlled maneuvers and building the skills needed to complete the AFF program.

3. FINAL AFF SKYDIVES

In the final levels of AFF, you’ll continue building confidence and sharpening your skills with more advanced maneuvers, independent exits, and improved control in freefall.

Each jump helps you demonstrate consistency, awareness, and the ability to manage your skydive from exit to landing with minimal instructor assistance.

By completing these final levels, you’ll have the skills and experience needed to move on to the next steps toward earning your USPA ‘A’ License.

4. LICENSE PROGRESSION

After completing AFF, you’ll continue with 18 additional skydives, including coach jumps and hop-and-pops, building skills in tracking, docking, exits, and landing accuracy.

Once all skill, knowledge, and 25- jump minimum requirements are met, you’ll earn your USPA A License, allowing you to jump independently and participate in group skydives.
